Sign a note
Sign your own consultation note in one click, after you've reviewed it.
Purpose
Signing makes your consultation note the record. If you ran the consultation and have prescribing rights, it takes one click. Keel saves your last changes first, so you sign exactly what's on screen.
Before you start
you need prescribing rights. Your clinic Owner turns them on
(Understand clinical signing authority).

Steps
Step 1: Open the note
Doon the patient's appointment page, select Open note in the Consultation card.
You'll seethe draft, with Sign off in the top bar.
Step 2: Finish the review
Docheck every box and every medicine (Review a generated note).
Soeach medicine needs a dose, frequency and duration, and any flagged medicine must be kept or removed.
Otherwise Keel won't sign.
Step 3: Sign off
Doselect Sign off.
You'll seeSaving…, then Signing…, then Note signed at and the time.
you aren't asked for a reason when you sign your own note.
Step 4: Check the signed note
Dolook at the line at the bottom of the note, and at the top bar.
You'll seeSIGNED → by your name and the time at the bottom of the note, and Amend where Sign off was.
Sothe note can't be edited any more. A change now goes through a correction.
Result
You'll seeon the appointment page, the Consultation card shows Signed and View note.
signing normally marks the patient's appointment complete as well.
If it doesn't work
- If you see: Sign off is greyed outHover over it to see why (Why signing is blocked)
- If you see: Not signed · 1 medicine needs youFix the marked medicine (Resolve medicine review blockers)
- If you see: Save failed · try againYour changes didn't save, so nothing was signed. Select it again, then Sign off.
- If you see: Another doctor already signed this note. Refreshing.The note is already signed. To change it, see Correct a signed note.
- Working: Note signed at and the timeDone
Limits
empty boxes don't stop you signing.
flagged lines outside the medicines box don't stop you signing. They're signed as written.
a consultation has one signed note. To change it, use Amend.
signing isn't available in the Keel phone app yet. Its Sign off key is greyed out.
Checked against the Keel product source and in the live product on 2026-10-11. Prescribing shown as granted by the Owner on My profile was observed. Opening a note, Sign off, the signed note and the error messages were not exercised.
