Withdraw audio consent and check cleanup
When a patient asks to stop mid-consultation, stop and delete the recording, then check what was deleted.
Purpose
A patient can change their mind while they're being recorded. Keel's stop-and-delete stops the recording and deletes the audio and transcript for that visit, then shows you what happened to each copy. The visit itself carries on.
Before you start
always get the patient's consent before you start. Start from the Scribe screen, which asks
you to confirm consent — starting from an appointment begins recording straight away.
stop-and-delete is in the Keel mobile app's recording screen, while the consult is still
recording. The web recording screen doesn't have it.
only the consultation's own doctor or the centre owner can delete a recording. The screen says
Only you or the centre owner can delete this recording.
deleting can't be undone.
Steps
Step 1: Open recording consent
Doon the recording screen, select the patient's name at the top.
You'll seeRecording consent, with Close and She asked to stop.
Step 2: Confirm the patient asked
Doselect She asked to stop.
You'll seethat the patient has asked to stop, and Stopping deletes the audio and the transcript for this
visit., with Keep recording and Stop and delete.
Keep recording closes this without changing anything.
Step 3: Delete the recording
Doselect Stop and delete, read the list, then select Delete.
You'll seeTHIS CANNOT BE UNDONE and Delete this recording?, listing what will be deleted. If a draft note
was already written from this recording, it's listed too.
Sorecording stops first, then the copies are deleted.
Step 4: Check what was deleted
You'll seeone line for each copy: AUDIO, TRANSCRIPT, NOTE, ON THIS PHONE, TRANSCRIBER and
BACKUPS, then THE VISIT with Still happened. Only the recording is gone.
Soyou can see where each copy went, not just that the button was pressed.
TRANSCRIBER reads Outside our reach — see the clinic’s data policy, and BACKUPS reads
Deletion requested. Keel doesn't claim these two copies are already gone.
Step 5: Write the note by hand
Doselect Write the note.
Sonothing is drafted from a deleted recording, so you write this visit's note yourself.
Result
You'll seethe recording marked DELETED, and the note row Not drafted — there is nothing to draft it from.
If it doesn't work
- If you see: Selecting the patient's name does nothingThe consult has ended or is saving, so stop-and-delete is no longer offered
- If you see: NOT FINISHED and Retry deleteSome copies weren't deleted yet. Select Retry delete.
- If you see: A row reads Could not confirm — report thisKeel couldn't confirm that copy was deleted. Report it.
- If you see: A refusal when you select DeleteOnly the consultation's doctor or the centre owner can delete it. Ask the right person.
- Working: DELETED, and every row is settledDone. Write the note by hand.
Limits
on the web there's no stop-and-delete during recording.
once the consult has ended, stop-and-delete is no longer on screen.
after a withdrawal, the scribe can't be restarted for that consultation.
Checked against the Keel product source and in the live product on 2026-10-11. No step on this page was observed. The stop-and-delete flow and its result screen were not exercised.
